Baseball falls at Paradise Valley, 7-2

PARADISE VALLEY, AZ - A five-run seventh inning by Paradise Valley broke open a 2-2 game as the Pumas went on to a 7-2 win over Mesa in ACCAC baseball Wednesday.

PVCC actually jumped on top quickly, scoring two in the first inning, but Mesa battled back with one in the fifth and one in the seventh.

In the fifth, Danny Lutz (So., Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain H.S.) led off with a double and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Casey Moses (So., North las Vegas, AZ/Centennial H.S.).

Moses did the same thing in the seventh, driving in Drew Lawrence (Fr., Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek H.S.) who had walked. A base hit by Lutz moved Lawrence over and Moses got his second RBI, tying the score.

Kent Hasler (Fr., Chandler, AZ/Hamilton H.S.) gave up a two-run homer to Nate Ruane in the first and then settled down to pitch well through six. But he, and three relievers, could not shut the door in the seventh.

Mesa begins a home-and-home series with GateWay on the road Friday at 3:00 p.m. The series continues Saturday at home at noon.
