Top of the order leads baseball to 9-3 win over Chandler-Gilbert

MESA, AZ - The top three hitters in the Mesa order accounted for ten hits and five RBIs as MCC scored a 9-3 ACCAC win over Chandler-Gilbert Tuesday.

Casey Moses (So., North Las Vegas, Nev/Centennial H.S.), Mitchell Morimoto (Fr., Issaquah, Wash/Issaquah H.S.) and Brady Bate (Fr., Fr., Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) did most of the damage as the T-Birds (6-0, 3-0) extended their season-opening win streak to six.

Moses had a double and a triple in his last two at bats, driving in two runs. Morimoto had a perfect, 4-4, day including a pair of doubles, two RBIs and even a walk. Bate had three hits in his final four at bats and also drove in a run.

CGCC (2-3, 0-3) struck first, loading the bases on the first three hitters of the game and scoring a run on James Ziegler's sacrifice fly before Evan Fresquez (So., Las Vegas, Nev/Coronado H.S.) settled in to work seven strong innings.

Mesa grabbed the lead for good with a four-run fourth, including a two-run single by Alex Gudac (So., West Jordan, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic H.S.).

The Coyotes narrowed the gap to 4-3 in fifth on a two-run single by Ty Gruenwald, but MCC broke it open late.

Moses delivered a two-run triple in the sixth, Morimoto added a two-run single in the eighth and Bate closed the scoring with an RBI in that frame.

Fresquez picked up his second win of the year on the mound.

The two teams switch sites, meeting at Chandler-Gilbert Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
