Ninth inning rally lifts baseball over Glendale, 6-5

MESA, AZ - scoring three times in the bottom of the ninth inning, Mesa completed a sweep of its 2014 nemesis, Glendale, 6-5 to run its winning streak to five to open the season.

The Gauchos were the only ACCAC team to take three of four against MCC in its national championship season, but Mesa got the upper hand at the start of 2015.

With one out in the ninth, Colton Corum (Fr., Winslow, AZ/Winslow H.S.) and Casey Moses (So., North Las Vegas, Nev/Centennial H.S.) both singled around a fielder's choice by Noah Kelly (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Sandra Day O'Connor H.S.). Moses' base hit plated Corum and then Brady Bate (Fr., Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) delivered a single that scored Kelly. A wild GCC throw allowed Moses to come around with the winning run.

Bate had a big day, going 3-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and was hit by a pitch. Moses was 2-4 with an RBI.

Danny Lutz (So., Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain H.S.) got the win in relief. Matt Mosca (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev/Cimmaron-Memorial H.S.) started and went five innings allowing just two hits and three unearned run.

Mesa hosts Chandler-Gilbert in its next conference series Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
