Baseball opens with sweep of ASU Club, 8-0, 13-1

  MESA, AZ - The defending national champion Mesa baseball team opened its season with an 8-0, 13-1, sweep of the Arizona State University Club team Sunday afternoon.

  In game one, MCC scored six in the first inning and coasted to the win.

  Jordan Zimmerman (So., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) was 2-3 including a double and RBI and Alex Gudac (So., West Jordan, Utah/Juan Diego H.S.) had a 2-4 game with a triple.

  Brady Bate (Fr., Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) drove in two and scored three.

  In the second game, Dallas Riggs (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Bradhsaw Mountain H.S.) had the T-Birds' first three-hit game of the year, going 3-4 with a double and two driven in. 

  Drew Lawrence (Fr., Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek H.S.) was 2-4 with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases, Matt Hart (Fr., Tempe, AZ/Seton Catholic H.S.) was 2-3 and drove in a run and Colton Corum (Fr., Winslow, AZ/Winslow H.S.) was 2-4 with an RBI and two steals.
