Cirelli receives national Coach of the Year Award

  ORLANDO, Fla. - Mesa baseball coach Tony Cirelli received his national Coach of the Year Award at the annual American Baseball Coaches Association convention in early January.

  Cirelli, who guided Mesa to the NJCAA Division II national championship was named Division II Coach of the Year.

  His T-Birds completed the most successful season in school history with a 52-13 record in 2014. MCC worked its way through the loser's bracket after dropping it first contest at the World Series in Enid, Okla., and eventually defeated Hinds (Miss.) 9-7 in 11 innings to claim the title.honored as Division II Coach of the Year.

  In his 20 seasons at the helm of the Mesa program Cirelli has compiled a record of 716-456, nearly double the victories of any previous Thunderbirds' coach.
