Beach volleyball battles in day one of NJCAA National Champonship

Tavares, FL – The Lady T-Bird beach volleyball team went 1-1 in their first day of competition of the NJCAA Beach Volleyball Championship on Thursday. 

MCC started off the day with a 3-0 victory over the No. 12 seed, Bryant and Stratton College, but fell in their second matchup against No. 5 seed, Lake Sumter 0-3.

No. 12 Bryant and Stratton - 0 / No. 4 Mesa Community College - 3

No. 3 pair Abby Platt and Annie Hansen won in two sets, 21-7, 21-1.

No. 4 pair Sadie Montague and Jordan Ebner won in two sets, 21-1, 21-4

No. 5 pair Cassidy Wakefield and Braylin Palmer won in two sets, 21-4, 21-0.

No. 5 Lake Sumter - 3 / No. 4 Mesa Community College - 0

No. 1 pair Karla Ramirez and Abby Wermuth lost in two sets, 21-14, 21-13.

No. 3 pair Abby Platt and Annie Hansen lost in two sets, 21-10, 21-12.

No. 5 pair Cassidy Wakefield and Braylin Palmer lost in two sets, 21-15, 21-17.

 

The Lady T-Birds finish second in their pool with a 1-1 record. Lake Sumter finished first going 2-0, and Bryant and Stratton finished third going 0-2. 

MCC will take on St. Johns River in the Challenge Round 3 matchup at 7:15 a.m. Arizona time. The Vikings finished first in their pool going 2-0, defeating both Spartanburg Methodist and Trinidad State.

The Lady T-Birds first game will determine where they move in the bracket.
