PUMAS SWEEP PHOENIX AND MESA

Puma Baseball (17-8) swept Phoenix College and Mesa. 

Tuesday, February 28: Game 1 - PVCC 14, PC 0 (6)

Liam O'Brien had all the right stuff in game one for the Pumas, allowing zero runs and besting Phoenix College by a score of 14-0.

The Pumas opened up scoring in the first inning, when Chaz Clemons singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. The Pumas were boosted by Carson Craig who went 4-for-5 at the plate. Craig singled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the fourth, and doubled in the sixth. The Pumas tallied seven runs in the sixth inning. Gavin Acosta, Jonny Garber, Austin Corbett, Cole Williams, and Craig all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

O'Brien led the Pumas to victory on the hill. O'Brien allowed two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out six.

Tuesday, February 28: Game 2 – PVCC 12, PC 7

The Pumas defeated Phoenix College 12-7 in game two after taking the lead late in the game.

The Pumas earned the victory despite allowing PC to score six runs in the fifth inning. The Pumas knotted the game up at six in the top of the seventh inning, when Austin Corbett singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. The game was tied at six with the Pumas batting in the top of the eighth when Gavin Acosta doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring three runs.

Mason Brunson got the win for the Pumas. Brunson lasted two innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero. Logan Birch and Tomas Urbina entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Sam Lachot started the game for the Pumas. The righty allowed eight hits and six runs over four innings, striking out two.

Friday, March 3: PVCC 11, MCC 9

The Pumas snatched the lead late in the game in an 11-9 victory over Mesa Community College. The game was tied at eight with the Pumas batting in the top of the eighth when Cole Williams doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring three runs. 

Williams collected five hits in five at bats to help lead the Pumas to victory. Williams singled in the second, doubled in the fourth, singled in the sixth, singled in the eighth, and doubled in the eighth. 

Jayden Rowley was the winning pitcher for the Pumas. The righty went one inning, allowing zero runs on two hits and walking zero. Logan Birch, Tomas Urbina, and Connor Dougal all put in work in relief , steering their team towards the victory. Urbina recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Pumas.

Jackson Brenna started the game for the Pumas. The lefty surrendered seven runs on five hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven

Saturday, March 4: PVCC 2, MCC 1

Both teams were strong on the hill in game two, but the Pumas defeated Mesa Community College 2-1. 

The Pumas got things moving in the first inning, scoring one run on a Matt Graf double.

Kadden Drew was the winning pitcher for the Pumas. Drew lasted four and a third innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out seven and walking one. Mason Brunson and Adam Koski entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Brunson recorded the last ten outs to earn the save for the Pumas.
