The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (0-13, 0-8 ACCAC) lost 84-44 to Mesa CC in a road ACCAC contest on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Freshmen Janae Byrd and Chloe Wiley scored 11 points apiece for the Cougars.
SMCC trailed 49-27 at halftime and lost 35-17 in the second half. The Cougars shot 32.1 percent from the field and added 26 rebounds, seven assists, 11 steals, and two blocks.
Byrd was 5 of 9 from the field and added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 33 minutes. Wiley made three 3-pointers and added four rebounds, two steals, and a block in 33 minutes.
Freshman Carissa Collier had six points and three rebounds off the bench, and freshman Mimi Miller had five points and five rebounds in 30 minutes.
Sophomore Miriam Traore had six rebounds and three points, and sophomore Hailey Connor had four points and two assists.
