Katalbas Throws a Shutout in Game 1 and Delivers Four Hits in Game 2 to Lead Softball to a Sweep Over Mesa
Game 1: 
 
Kelly Katalbas had all the right stuff on Saturday for GateWay, allowing zero runs and besting Mesa by a score of 7-0. The Geckos secured the victory thanks to four runs in the sixth inning.  Leticia Herrera and Katalbas both drove in runs in the frame. GateWay got on the board in the first inning when Antarez Sierra hit a sac fly to score one run. A single by Reeve in the first inning was a positive for Mesa.
 
Katalbas led the Geckos to victory in the pitcher's circle. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing zero runs on four hits, striking out six and walking one. Ornelas led things off in the circle for Mesa. Ornelas went three innings, allowing three runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking one.  Grandpre threw three innings out of the bullpen.
 
GateWay had 16 hits in the game led by Angelina Martinez who went 3-3. Also contributing were Katalbas, Rebekka Nance, Sierra, Amaya Porch, and Kaidiance Cleland who each collected multiple hits.  Katalbas and Martinez each collected three hits to lead GateWay. The Geckosdidn't commit a single error in the field.
 
 
 
Game 2:
 
Four hits from Kelly Katalbas helped lead the way for GateWay over Mesa CC 6-3 in Game 2 on Saturday.  Katalbas doubled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the fourth, and singled in the sixth. In the first inning, the Geckos got their offense started when Katalbas doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. GateWay put up four runs in the second inning.  Amaya Porch, Katalbas, and Rebekka Nance each drove in runs during the inning.
 
Katalbas was credited with the victory for GateWay. The bulldog surrendered three runs on ten hits over seven innings, striking out two. Navaho led things off on the rubber for Mesa. She allowed six hits and six runs over two innings, striking out one.  Ornelas and Grandpre entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and one inning respectively.
 
GateWay  smacked one home run on the day. Porch had a dinger in the second inning. The Geckos racked up 13 hits.  Katalbas, Angelina Martinez, and Nance each had multiple hits for GateWay.  Katalbas went 4-for-4 at the plate and Martrinez went 3-for-3 to lead the Geckos in hits.  GateWay didn't commit a single error in the field. Mesa CC collected ten hits.
