Puma Softball (4-16) has had a rough stretch lately, playing four Division I schools over their last seven series and only recording two wins over that span.

The Pumas had a big win against D1 Arizona Western when they defeated the Matadors 10-7 in game one of a double header last month. The Pumas also picked up a win against Mesa earlier this month when they defeated the Thunderbirds in game two of a double header 13-10 in extra innings.

Saturday, February 25: Game 1 – PVCC 10, AWC 7

The Pumas jumped out to an early lead over Arizona Western and took home a 10-7 victory. 

There was plenty of action on the base paths as the Pumas collected eight hits and the Matadors had 12. The Pumas took a commanding lead with seven runs in the second inning. In the second Estevannie Rojas hit a solo homer, Maegan Viramontes drew a walk, scoring one run, Taniyah LaDrigue singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs, and Rojas doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

 

Dawn Morris was in the pitcher's circle for the Pumas. The lefty went five innings, allowing five runs on ten hits and striking out two.

Saturday, March 11: Game 2 – PVCC 13, MCC 10 (8)

The Pumas snagged a late lead and defeated Mesa 13-10.

The Pumas got on the board in the first inning when Angelique Aguayo doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Estevannie Rojas led the Pumas to victory by driving in four runs. Rojas went 2-for-5 at the plate and drove in runs on a home run in the fifth and a wild pitch in the seventh. The game was tied at nine with the Pumas batting in the top of the eighth when an error scored one run for the Pumas giving them the lead.  The Pumas launched two home runs on the day. Rojas had a homer in the fifth inning and Jazlyn Romero had a four bagger in the fifth inning.

The Pumas saw the ball well, racking up 17 hits in the game. Romero, Aguayo, Maegan Viramontes, Rojas, and Dawn Morris each collected multiple hits for the Pumas. Romero went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

Holly Myers got the start for the Pumas. The righty surrendered four runs on five hits over four innings, striking out four.

The Pumas close out the first half of the season on Thursday, March 23 when they take on Phoenix College at home. First pitch is at 1pm.
