Men's and Women's soccer sweep at Scottsdale

Scottsdale, AZ - It was beautiful Saturday afternoon to play soccer.  It was even more beautiful that both the Men's and Women's soccer teams for Mesa swept Scottsdale in both game they played, women winning 1-0 and the men, 2-1.

Women-  The women got their lone goal from Rianna Poarch(So., Gilbert, AZ, Williams Field H.S.) who put it in from about 40 yards out, a high lofter that sailed right over the head of the Artichoke goalie.  Elisha Dietrich(Fr., Gilbert, AZ, Gilbert H.S.) was strong again in goal for Mesa, as she records another shutout in her young career.

Mesa women are now 3-1.  They will be home against Phoenix College Monday night at home, kickoff at 5:30 p.m.

Men- It was an Austin Rios(Fr., Buckeye, AZ, Estrella Foothills H.S.) header that started off the Mesa scoring early on in the game to get T-Birds on the board first, 1-0.  In the second half, Scottsdale fell a man down after receiving a red card.  Mesa though, gave up a goal near the halfway point of the second half, knotting the score at 1-1.  The T-Birds didn't let that bother them though as they kicked in a goal of their own less than two minutes later, which ended up being the deciding goal.  Kody Gibbs was responsible for that goal, getting a nice pass in front of the net from Glen Asare.

Mesa moves to 3-1 on season as well.  They also will be home Monday against Phoenix College
