Mesa athletics welcomes college's new President, Dr. Richard Haney

  Mesa, AZ – The Mesa athletic department welcomes Mesa Community College's new President Dr. Richard Haney.

  Haney comes from the College of Lake County in (CLC) Grayslake, Ill., which he joined in 1999 as Dean of Business and Industry Services He also served as the Assistant Vice President for Educational Affairs and Vice President for Educational Affairs.  He was then named Provost and eventually Interim President.

  Prior to arriving at CLC he held leadership positions at Parkland College and Southwestern Illinois College.

  He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he received both his master's and doctorate degrees.

In 2016, the CLC received the Charles Kennedy Equity Award from the Association of Community College Trustees for its work in advancing student success and diversity among students, faculty and staff.

  He will oversee a Mesa athletic program that has had outstanding success in recent years. In the last five years alone, T-Bird teams have won three NJCAA national championships and 35 ACCAC and Region I titles.

  Mesa athletes have been equally as strong academically. During that time span they have earned 139 NJCAA All-Academic honors. Those are awarded to athletes compiling at least a 3.6 GPA. In addition, 34 complete team have been recognized for posting at least a 3.0 composite GPA.
