Mesa ties for 12th in NATYCAA Cup rankings of more than 400 NJCAA scholarship schools

Cleveland, Ohio – Once again the Mesa athletic program has had a strong showing in the annual National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) rankings of the top two-year schools in the NJCAA, tying for 12th place.

The NATYCAA Cup is awarded annually to the top programs based upon results in national NJCAA competition. MCC scored 80.5 points to tie for 12th place with Vincennes (Ind.). Iowa Central was the winner. All of the more than 400 NJCAA scholarship schools are included.

In the 15-year history of the cup Mesa has placed in the top five a total of five times, the top ten eight times and has finished lower than 20th only once. MCC won the cup in 2004-05 and was fifth a year ago.

The T-Birds had 12 teams that competed in NJCAA national events last year. The top finishes were: women's basketball, 4th; volleyball, 6th; men's indoor track and field, tied for 8th and men's tennis, 9th.
