Women's Basketball, Softball Attend Reception Hosted by Mesa Hohokams

Mesa, AZ - On Thursday evening, MCC's softball and women's basketball programs were invited to attend a reception hosted by the Mesa Hohokams, which was held at Chicago Cubs Park in Mesa, AZ.

The reception was held to recognize the charitable contributions made by the Mesa-based organization, totaling over $320,000 and shared with approximately 50 local youth and sports organizations from within the city of Mesa this year alone.

MCC women's basketball has received a donation from them for five years and this is the first year for softball.

Both programs are extremely honored and appreciative to be included as 2016 Hohokam fundraising recipients.

The Hohokams are a fundraising group which has been around since 1951 and host the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics for Major League Baseball (MLB) Spring Training.

Additional information about the organization and its history and mission can be found here:http://hohokams.org

In order to apply and be awarded, recipients must be sponsored by a Hohokam representative. Recently retired MCC college safety officer, Jim Pomush, has sponsored Kori Stephenson's women's basketball program for the last five years. Coach Grady Moorhead's softball program is sponsored by Hohokam Matt Burdick.

Both coaches expressed their immense gratitude for the honor and wish to acknowledge both Jim and Matt for their support throughout the process.

In addition, both programs realize the hard work and effort of the all-volunteer organization who raise funds primarily during the month of March during MLB Spring Training.

Both programs look forward to continuing their relationship with the Hohokams and are extremely grateful to their sponsors Jim and Mike for reaching out to them.

They are also honored to be included as recipients along with other prestigious youth sports programs throughout the city of Mesa.
