Louis Bustillo

Louie Bustillo

Louie Bustillo was one of the top junior golfers in the State of Arizona in the early 1970s. After he graduated from McClintock High School where he was an All-State player, he held the number one spot on Coach Tom Bennett's MCC golf team in 1973 and 1974. In both years, he was Mesa's most valuable player, consistently shooting in the 70s, and played in two NJCAA national tournaments.

Following graduation, he won the Space Coast Tour championship in Orlando, Florida in 1976, and the following year was a PGA Tour qualifying finalist. He played professional golf for six years, mainly on mini-tours and state opens.

He became an Assistant Pro in 1983 and was affiliated with Shalimar, Riverview, and Dobson Ranch courses. Since 1996, he has been Head Pro at Sun Lakes Golf Club and currently at the Dobson Ranch course.

He is considered a very good teacher and a very positive individual who makes his students and golfing partners more confident in their game. Putting has always been one of Louie's strengths. One of his teammates claims that he must have made every putt when he was at Mesa, which earned him the nickname of "Thistle." ("Thistle" happened to be the brand of his favorite putter.)
